THE CHRIST-CENTERED 12 STEPS FOR CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY

STEP 1

We admit that by ourselves we are powerless over chemical substances-that our lives have become unmanageable.

Ecclesiastes 5:10-12, 9:11-12, Isaiah 54:1-8, Mark 10:13-16, Romans 7:15-20

STEP 2

We come to believe that God, through Jesus Christ, can restore us to sanity.

Daniel 4:19-33, Mark 5:1-13, Luke 15:11-24, Romans 1:21-23, Romans 3:21-26

STEP 3

We make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to God through Jesus Christ.

Daniel 3:14-27, Matthew 6:25-34, Matthew 16:24-28, James 4:7-10, 2 Peter 1:2-9

STEP 4

We make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Genesis 3:6-13, Proverbs 2:6-22, 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, 2 Corinthians 7:8-11, Phillipians 3:12-14

STEP 5

We admit to God, to ourselves, and to another person the exact nature of our wrongs.

Genesis 38:1-30, Psalms 32:1-6, Psalms 51:1-6, Hosea 11:8-11, John 8:3-11

STEP 6

We commit ourselves to God and desire that He remove patterns of sin from our lives.

lsaiah 55:1-9, Matthew 15:16-20, John 5:1-9, Romans 12:1-2, James 1:1-4

STEP 7

We humbly ask God to renew our minds so that our sinful patterns can be transformed into patterns of righteousness.

Exodus 3:1-12, Psalm 103:1-16, lsaiah 49:8-12, Luke 11:5-13, Ephesians 3:14-19

STEP 8

We make a list of all persons who have hurt us and choose to forgive them. We also make a list of all persons we have harmed, and we become willing to make amends to them all.

Proverbs 4:14-17, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Luke 6:36-38, John 16:8-15, Romans 12:17-21

STEP 9

We make direct amends to such people where possible, except when doing so will injure them or others.

Genesis 3:6-10, Leviticus 18:6-26, Ezekiel 33:10-16, Matthew 17:24-27, John 21:14-19

STEP 10

We continue to take personal inventory, and when we are wrong, promptly admit it.

1 Corinthians 10:12-13, Romans 7:18-25, Ephesians 4:26-27, Phillippians 4:8-9, James 3:17-18

STEP 11

We seek to know Christ more intimately through prayer and meditation, praying only for knowledge of His will and the power to carry that out.

Psalms 8:1-6, lsaiah 40:28-31, Matthew 16:24-26, Luke 22:31-34, John 14:15-24

STEP 12

Having had a spiritual awakening, we try to carry the message of Christ's grace and restoration power to others who are chemically dependent and to practice these principles in every aspect of our lives.

Psalms 107:1-32, Mark 8:22-26, Luke 14:16-24, Romans 12:1-5, Galatians 6:1-3
